Spring in the vineyard 2022

Posted on:May 5, 2022

Our 7 acres of vines are now slowly turning to bud burst, this means the fragile green leaves are gradually emerging from their brittle brown bud covering and unfurling in the Spring sunshine.  This can be a nervous time for our vineyard manager and his assistant, as late Spring frosts can be damaging to the fragile buds, but so far so good.  Madeleine Angevine is always the first vine to bud at the top of the vineyard, which is in tune with this early ripening variety. It is swiftly followed by Schönburger, and then the Auxerrois and Pinot Gris at the bottom of the gentle slope bringing up the rear.

With warmer weather on the way these buds will soon be developing into longer canes/ tendrils and the vines will be off.

Please check our events page to see our Open Day dates if you would like to come and see the vines first hand.
